Nintendo retiring Club Nintendo points service

14th Jan Nintendo Direct

Nintendo have announced that they will be removing the Club Nintendo Stars programme from the end of September this year.

According to MCV, All Stars not redeemed by September 30th 2015 will be lost as the Club Nintendo service closes. On 1st April codes will stop being included in game boxes and from 20th April games downloaded from the eShop will no longer register on the service.

In line with this, the forthcoming New 3DS and New 3DS XL will not be registerable.

Nintendo says it is “working hard to create a new programme” that it intends to launch later this year. Those who sign up to the new scheme will get a free digital copy of 3DS title Flipnote Studio 3D.

We’ll be sad to see the Stars service go, but we’re looking forward to seeing what Nintendo come up with to replace the scheme.
