Advanced Warfare Ascendance DLC now available on Xbox

Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners can grab the new DLC for Call of Duty: Advance Warfare right now on Xbox.com.

It’s been a busy time for Call of Duty of late. Since the Havoc DLC landed on 27th January we’ve seen the end of Season 1 of the Pro League, of the Championship Regionals and the Championship Final itself. It has been absolutely insane, and then to top it all off Sledgehammer and Activision give us Advanced Warfare’s second DLC pack. It looks a real doozy too!!

First up, and we should all know the score by now, we have four new multiplayer maps. What pleases me the most about these “yet again” is that they seem to new rather than just paint jobs of so-called fan favourites. Perhaps this is because Sledgehammer do not yet have a back catalogue to choose from. Who cares? Four original maps should be applauded.

The maps themselves seem to be a healthy mix of close-quarters and mid/long range combat. Based purely on the video below ‘Perplex’ seems quite open plan, but makes more use of the exo-suit over multiple, vertical levels. ‘Climate’ has a mix of open area and underground (no exo-jumps in there). ‘Chop Shop’ also makes use of the different levels, but is more close-quarters. And ‘Site 244’ again is open plan but with scattered debris for cover.

Out of all of these ‘Perplex’ is the one that seems to have the most potential, at least regarding exo-suits. Having clocked up many hours on the game what has frustrated me the most is how the game has not yet fully exploited the vertical aspect of the game. ‘Perplex’ would appear to be tackling this head on, although I have to say that the Grapple Mode being introduced might mix things up a bit in this regard.

They are also introducing a little alien thing in ‘Site 44’. Not sure what is does exactly, but it does appear to give the player some extra ability or two so that could be an interesting in-game extra. And then there’s the new weapon, the OHM Werewolf. It’s a lazer shotgun-cum-rifle combo capable of shooting through walls. I’m looking forward to checking that bad boy out.

Last but by no means least is part 2 of the zombie mode, this time called ‘Infection’. Set in Burger Town the players once again have to battle the incoming hordes of walking/jumping dead. I’ll be interested to see how much of a nod this is to the Burger Town level in Modern Warfare 2, in which you have to defend your position on top of the restaurant against an incoming tide of enemy. The new zombies, including the one in the Guardian suit, also look a bit sick.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’s Ascendance DLC is available now as part of the Season Pass or as a download Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners. PC, PS3 and PS4 owners will have to wait a bit longer to get their hands on it (the last time it took a month).

Check out the trailer below for a taste of the action.
