EA have added female players to the FIFA game cover for the first time in the game’s series.
Alex Morgan is on the US cover, Christine Sinclair on the Canadian one and the Australian game features Steph Catley, all three play for Portland Thorns.
“It is an incredible honour to be one of the first women featured on the cover of EA Sports’ FIFA,” Morgan said of her US cover role. “I know people all over the world play this game and I’m really excited that FIFA 16 is putting such an important spotlight on women’s soccer. And now to share the cover with today’s greatest player is surreal.”
While it’s a shame we can’t see female players on the European covers in this edition, it does seem to bode well for future releases and with Women’s Football gaining more support in Europe. it wouldn’t be surprising to see this sooner rather than later.
The move comes after EA announced that this year’s game would have Female teams for the first time.
