Joel Bylos details Conan Exiles future plans at GDC

What’s next for Conan Exiles?  That’s what the team at Funcom have been detailing at GDC over the last few days.

The survival sim, set in the fictional lands made famous in the Conan books and movies, has been in early access since February and the development team have been hard at work planning out the next phase of the project.

Creative Director Joel Bylos has detailed the next steps for the game. Xbox One will see the Game Preview version hit the console in Q3 2017 and Playstation 4 will get it when the game launches properly in Q1 2018 on all formats.

During the Early Access period, the team plan to release updates every 1-2 weeks on a Thursday, including small content additions like new recipes.  Game Updates, which feature larger improvements, will also be planned for the game, including new buildings and the forthcoming Siege Warfare items to change how the game is played.

Bylos also detailed The Purge, where NPCs will form a group at the edges of an area and deliberately attack player cities and will include legendary characters from Conan lore in their ranks.  You’ll be able to capture these characters and get them to work for you, providing a risk/reward system for these raiding parties.

A new Settlement system will give players a ‘Sims-like’ control over AI characters, getting them to do specific jobs for you such as opening and closing your city gates when they see you arrive.

It sounds like Conan Exiles fans should have a lot to look forward to over the coming months as the game expands and Funcom use the profits from the recent Early Access launch to help fund new content.  If you want to get in on the action now, you can head over to their site and grab a Steam Early Access copy of the game.
