Developer Hello Games have updated No Man’s Sky, their interstellar exploration game, with a huge new update, bringing base building and more to the universe.
Announced only a few days ago on their blog, the Foundation Update gives players the ability to build their own bases, hire alien help and try a hand at farming to supply them with new inventory items without all that searching around.
The game will also be split into three modes;
- Normal mode is the original chilled exploration experience
- Creative mode allows players to explore the universe without limits, and build a huge base
- Survival mode really changes the game, creating a much more challenging endurance experience
It looks as though the bases you build in Creative mode can be used, alongside new save points, to survive in Survival mode. Â Judging by the already harsh atmosphere on some planets, this is probably a very good thing.
You can now also build freighters to ferry around resources or just to show off. Â These can be called to your location, ready to dock inside.
No Man’s Sky’s troubled launch is well documented, it received mixed reviews based on the finished article not meeting the original plans for the game, which also lead to some corners of the internet sharpening their pitchforks (as is the way with online communities these days). Â Hello Games has remained fairly silent until now, partly perhaps because they were laying low and, it now transpires, because they were hard at work on several updates, with the Foundation update paving the way for a much larger change that the developer has promised.
