So we finally know what Sony’s latest beast looks like. Last night’s Playstation 5 showcase gave us the first proper glimpse of their new console in all it’s black and white glory.
The console differs greatly from Microsoft’s rather square and straight Xbox Series X, which was revealed the other month. Instead, Sony have gone for a curved design that gives a subtle V shape, denoting the fact that this is the 5th generation Playstation.
At launch, 2 models will be available; a version with a 4K UHD Drive and an all-digital version, similar to the Xbox One S Digital from Microsoft. With digital now being the main source for many gamers, this option should help cut the cost for those looking to upgrade if they don’t want the added benefit of a 4K Bluray drive.
The new Dualshock 5, revealed in an earlier event, was seen alongside a new matching set of headphones, the Pulse 3D Wireless Headset and a new HD camera, which should help with VR tracking improvements.
Sony also revealed a ton of games during the event including a sequel to the much lauded Horizon Zero Dawn, a Spider-man expansion for PS5 featuring Miles Morales and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.
Racing fan have Gran Turismo 7 to look forward to while previous mascot for Sony, Sackboy finally makes his return in platform adventure Sackboy: A Big Adventure.
No price or release date were announced at the event but you can be sure that Sony and Microsoft are keeping a close eye on each other for their subsequent updates on how much their new machines will cost and what date they set for release.
