Sega may decide to re-release the first 2 Shenmue games based on the popularity of the Shenmue 3 Kickstarter, Video Game Industry magazine MCV have suggested.
“We want to innovate and back smarthphones and virtual reality but our key purpose is to go back to what the brand used to stand for and I think the buzz around Shenmue 3 shows that people love our legacy,” Sega Europe’s head of brand marketing Jon Rooke told Marketing Week.
He explained that they were looking at the possibility of bringing the original games in the series back, though whether that would be the current gen platforms, a PC release or mobile is unknown.
Still, it’s exciting for fans who have been dreaming of a continuation to the series since the last game hit the Dreamcast and original Xbox.
