The Shenmue III Kickstarter, announced and kicked off at Sony’s E3 conference, has made $6,333,296 USD with 69,320 backers.
The Kickstarter closed on 18th July with the record figure, the highest in Kickstarter history.
Series creator, Yu Suzuki, originally starter with a $2m USD goal but soon surpassed this with new goals added over the life of the project, including the popular addition of a physical PS4 copy which is bound to be worth a fair price on launch.
Physical copies of the game are by no means a certainty outside of the campaign, though it’s hard to think Sony wouldn’t want these after this sort of feedback, but the game will now launch digitally on PC and PS4 at the very least, with talk of other formats including Xbox One becoming available.
