Roccat’s mice seem to get better and better with each new generation. The latest to hit the market is the Kain 120 AIMO which is a beautiful looking ergonomic gaming mouse.
With a brand new design for Roccat, this mouse doesn’t over-complicate itself with too many buttons. Those strategy gamers who have been used to multiple programmable buttons in their mice may well wonder why there are so few here, but the two side buttons placed just above thumb height are well designed and responsive and work in conjunction with the large standard buttons on top and the wonderfully responsive smooth moving scroll wheel. A DPI button sits in the centre within easy reach, allowing you to instantly choose between settings.
It’s worth noting that the switches are fantastic in the buttons, allowing for fast reactions (probably wasted on my ageing fingers, though!) and EasyShift+ allows for extra functions from the buttons in games, giving you the equivalent of virtual buttons on top of their main function.
Leaving out too many un-needed bells and whistles keeps the design looking sleek and added to this you get the AIMO lighting, backed up by the Swarm software which controls all Roccat AIMO peripherals and allows the lighting to create uniform patterns between mice, keyboards, headsets and mouse mats. Even in its default form, before you even start fiddling with light settings, the two tone lighting emanating from the logo and scroll wheel has a refined and even slightly understated look.
The patented ‘Owl-Eye’ optical sensor is present here, allowing this mouse to switch up to a maximum of 16,000 DPI (way too fast for my desktop but great in fast paced games).
The Kain 120 AIMO is both sleek and responsive, ideal for long gaming sessions or just as a showpiece for an RGB-based gaming setup. It’s one of the best gaming mice I’ve used in my life.
