Star Wars Battlefront forgoes dedicated voice chat for system chat

Now that the Beta for Star Wars Battlefront has closed millions of voices suddenly cried out in…well, confusion, over the lack of voice chat.

EA have responded on Twitter to confirm that there are no plans for a dedicated in-game chat and that “Battlefront will utilize the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One built-in party system for in-game chat.” and that PC users should use their own third party software to do the same.

This is unsurprising given that previous PC games from EA have dropped VOIP in-game and concentrated on the updated Origin system’s own group chat.  Many PC gamers will use Teamspeak as an option, too, though these do not allow for random gamers who join a game without being in your group.

There are pros and cons to having group chat over a game-wide chat system, but most of the positives outweigh the negatives.
